Program Overview

Prepare for the Entrance Exam—and for Success in Pre-IB

Our goal is not only to help students perform well on the entrance exam, but also to build the strong academic foundation and critical-thinking skills they need to succeed once they enter the Pre-IB program.

Rather than relying on memorization or shortcuts, our classes emphasize conceptual understanding, advanced problem-solving and effective exam strategies. Students learn in a small-group environment where each student receives individual guidance and feedback.

Mathematics and English are separate 10-class courses. Logical-thinking and time-management strategies are integrated into both subjects.

Mathematics Problem Solving

Advanced applications, mathematical reasoning and challenging multi-step questions.

Logical Reasoning

Critical thinking, pattern recognition and strategies for unfamiliar problems.

Exam Strategies

Time management, accuracy, effective checking and confident decision-making.

Areas of Preparation

Mathematical Skills for Pre-IB Entrance Exams

The exact emphasis is adjusted to the student and the requirements of the Pre-IB program to which they are applying.

Numerical Fluency

  • Operations and number relationships
  • Fractions, decimals, ratios and percentages
  • Mental calculation and estimation
  • Accuracy without unnecessary steps

Algebraic Thinking

  • Patterns and relationships
  • Variables and equations
  • Multi-step reasoning
  • Representing mathematical ideas

Geometry and Measurement

  • Spatial and geometric reasoning
  • Measurement relationships
  • Diagrams and visual information
  • Applying formulas appropriately

Problem Solving

  • Interpreting unfamiliar questions
  • Identifying relevant information
  • Logical and analytical reasoning
  • Checking whether answers are reasonable

Recommended Preparation Pathway

Prepare Early. Build Skills That Last.

The 10-class course provides focused entrance-exam preparation, but the strongest results come from building Mathematics and English skills earlier. Students are encouraged to begin KCEE enrichment in Grade 6 or 7.

KCEE’s Approach

More Than Repeating Practice Questions

Diagnose and strengthen

We identify the skills that require attention and teach the underlying concepts so students can respond to questions that look different from familiar examples.

Practise with feedback

Students work through targeted and assessment-style questions, learn from errors and develop a reliable process for showing complete reasoning.

Registration and Schedule

2026 IB Mathematics Preparation Course

The course begins the week of September 7, 2026 and includes 10 two-hour classes.

Ask About Available Class Times

Message or email KCEE with the student’s current grade and the IB school or program they are applying to. If the school has provided an admission-test date, outline or sample questions, please include that information so we can recommend the appropriate Mathematics class.

Common Questions

Pre-IB Mathematics Entrance Exam FAQs

Are all Pre-IB Mathematics entrance exams the same?

No. The format and content can vary by school and application year. Families should share any exam outline, sample questions or instructions provided by the school.

Does KCEE guarantee admission?

No program can guarantee an admission decision. KCEE helps students strengthen relevant skills, improve their approach and prepare as thoroughly as possible.

When should preparation begin?

Ideally, students begin Mathematics Enrichment and English Literacy in Grade 6 or 7, then complete both 10-class Pre-IB preparation courses before the entrance exam in Grade 8.

Is the program available online?

Depending on scheduling and the student’s needs, preparation may be available at Richmond Hill, Markham or live online.
